Las Posadas is a novenario (nine days of religious observance), during which Mexican families participate in nightly Christmas processions that re-create the Holy Pilgrimage. The performance will include ritual dance from the Aztec celebration of their most important deity, the sun god Huitzilopochtli, who was born during the month of December (panquetzaliztli). It will also include Posada procession during which Mexican families participate in nightly Christmas processions that re-create the Holy Pilgrimage of Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus on their way to Bethlehem.
The performance will take you on a journey to the regions Veracruz, San Luis, Jalisco Guerrero, and Oaxaca to experience how Christmas is celebrated in these areas of Mexico. Twenty-five dancers and musicians of Ballet Folklórico de Sacramento will take you on a whirlwind journey, as we all come together to celebrate this splendid time of year. With a traditional Christmas processional (posada), Mexican holiday songs (villancicos), a visit from the Three Wise Men, a festive piñata scene, and captivating dance choreography.
