Pretty-up your yard by creating this large, round mosaic color wheel that can be hung outdoors (or indoors)!
In this three-day workshop you will make a large 24″ round color wheel that is completely weatherproof and can hang outside (or inside, of course). There will be homework between class sessions.
Sessions 1 (9/7) focuses on cutting and prepping substrate. You will learn all about a lightweight, exterior-grade tile backerboard to make mosaics that can withstand the elements. You will cut, prep, and rig for hanging. On this day, you will also create your tempered glass center piece. Before you leave, you will be given supplies to complete the border of your piece (this is homework and will require approximately 5 hours).
Session 2 (9/21) is devoted to finishing off as much tessera-gluing as possible (for tessera you’ll be using: glass bars, mirror, glass gems, stained glass). You will be able to work at your own pace, choose your own materials, and use the instructor’s tools. At the end of the day, you’ll take whatever supplies you need to finish off the gluing stage on your own (approximate time needed is 5-10 hours).
Session 3 (10/5) is devoted to grouting. You will learn all about grout, grout colorants, and grouting with several colors. The only thing remaining, that you will need to do on your own is sealing the grout and finishing off edges.
Location address will be give to attendees upon registration.
