Buckyballs and the Nature of the Element Carbon

Buckyballs and the Nature of the Element Carbon

Presented by Powerhouse Science Center (Discovery Museum Science and Space Center) at Powerhouse Science Center (Discovery Museum Science & Space Center)

Build a model carbon nanotube, then cut and paste your own Buckyball. A Buckyball is a tiny molecule made of 60 carbon atoms named after architect Buckminster Fuller. Depending on the way the nano-scaled molecules are arranged you can get very different materials. Diamonds and graphite are both made of carbon atoms but arranged very differently.
