Please join Eating Recovery Center and Insight Behavioral Health Centers at Crawford’s Books this summer for an interactive healing writing workshop with Kara Richardson-Whitely. She will share her story of recovery from Binge Eating Disorder, and how writing helped her heal. She will then lead participants through a writing exercise to access their own healing through channeling their inner wisdom.
Kara Richardson, National Recovery Advocate for Eating Recovery Center, is no stranger to struggle. She had to learn how to unburden herself of the emotional weight that comes with being a person who has had a less-than-friendly relationship with her body, and the space that it inhabits in a culture that actively encourages us to “take up less space.”
In her book, Gorge: My Journey Up Kilimanjaro at 300 Pounds, readers journey with Kara as she makes friends with her body as she takes on the monumental task of climbing one of the world’s most challenging mountains. But what about the healing that comes after such an intense experience? Kara credits much of her recovery to the process of unburdening and release that comes when she puts pen to paper. Writing is a powerful tool as it helps us be the author of our own stories and create narratives that help us survive.
