A three-day workshop with a professional glass artist! Learn how to create your own mold and cast in glass!
Learn how to cast glass using an electric kiln! The focus of this workshop will be to give participants hands-on experience that will enable them to cast solid glass objects on their own. They will cover mold making, kiln firing, and glass annealing. Participants will use clay to create a relief from which a mold will be made during the first day. The second day the molds will be loaded with glass for a kiln firing which will take place during the following week at my own studio. The castings will be brought back to Blue Line on the following weekend for the third and final day of the workshop for cold work and finishing. No prior glass working experience is necessary.
If you are fusing glass and have fusible sheet glass you want to use for the castings that will work. Light colors, clear and casting tints work best. You can expect to use 4-6 lbs. of glass for your castings. In the class, you will be using Bullseye sheet, billet and cullet glass in clear and a variety of colors.
Water, coffee and light snacks will be provided during the workshop. You can bring a bag lunch or access several restaurants near the art center for lunch. Plan to wear clothes to work in. If you have any of the following items you can bring them to use in the class otherwise we will provide them: safety glasses, dust mask or respirator, rubber gloves, clay tools and ear protection for noise.
