Sacramento Taiko Dan 28th Anniversary Concert

Sacramento Taiko Dan 28th Anniversary Concert

Presented by Sacramento Taiko Dan at John F. Kennedy High School

Taiko is a Japanese style of percussion which combines music, movement and the spirit of the drummer to create a dynamic and visually exciting art form. The powerful sound of the drums evokes an emotional and spiritual response in audiences of all ages.

Marco Leinhard is the founder and artistic director of Taikoza, a New York based Taiko group. He mastered Taiko drumming as a member of Ondekoza from 1981-1994. He also plays several Japanese flutes: the shakuhachi, the fue (small bamboo transverse flute), and the Nohkan (the Noh Theater transverse flute used). Lienhard has performed more than 3000 concerts in Europe, Oceania, Asia and North and South America with appearances at some of the world’s most prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Boston Symphony Hall, Osaka Castle Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Center and Suntory Hall in Tokyo.

Sacramento Taiko Dan is a leading Japanese cultural arts organization for the Sacramento area. Their mission is to study, preserve and promote traditional and contemporary styles of Taiko drumming. They are active in arts communities across Northern California and participate in many local events each year.  Through their program, Taiko in Schools, they have provided presentations to over 13,000 area children.

Funds raised by this concert will allow Sacramento Taiko Dan to continue their mission to study, preserve and promote traditional and contemporary styles of Taiko drumming.
