Folsom Lake College’s Disabled Student Services and Programs (DSPS) has hosted a Disability Awareness Art Week for the past eight years, with great success. This week-long exhibit of artwork, produced by students with disabilities, will highlight the students’ artistic achievements. It will feature painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, and digital art media. The art week promotes the students’ self-esteem, pride in their talents, and fosters an awareness of the creative achievements of students with physical, psychological, or learning disabilities.
A community reception will be held in the Peregrine Room to recognize the students’ talents and will showcase their artwork. This event is open to the public. Five hundred dollars ($500) in stipends will be given for Best of Show and Honorable Mentions as well as the Brice and Barbara Harris Fine and Performing Arts Award ($500). These scholarship stipends will be awarded during the reception.
