And Then They Came for Us makes its Sacramento premiere at the Crest Theatre. Featuring actor and social activist George Takei, the film documents the mass incarceration of Japanese Americans. Directed by Abby Ginzberg, it draws parallels between the propaganda that enabled that incarceration, and today’s demonization and increasing violence against Muslim Americans, Mexicans, transgender persons and others.
After the film, a panel discussion will feature producer-director Ginzberg, Justice Cruz Reynoso, activist and transgender attorney Mia Frances Yamamoto, and the Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations-Sacramento Valley, Basim Elkarra. The discussion moderator will be professor and former KXTV anchor, Sharon Ito.
A social action networking session will follow the panel discussion.
