Cigars and Spittoons

Cigars and Spittoons

Presented by Old City Cemetery Committee at Sacramento Historic City Cemetery

Did you know that for years a good cheap cigar was seen as a sign of how well the economy was doing? Cigars were at the center of the 19th century’s fiery arguments over race, politics, jobs and agriculture. At this event, hosted by Eric Bradner, learn about Sacramento’s local tobacco industry, the “spittoon convention” and the early attempts at limiting smoking and spitting. Special guest speakers will include Mark Miller and Stephen Kadle.
