Navy League Sacramento Council has a special program on Iwo Jima, the island in the Pacific from someone who has been there and back. No, he didn’t fight in World War II but he was in and out of the island numerous times when he served aboard Navy aircraft that visited the island for training. Council officer Mike O’Docharty hiked over a good part of the island with his camera and notebook. It will be a fascinating presentation with photographs and his personal recollections.
Mike will reflect on the importance of this pivotal WWII battle and will share his personal impressions from living on and exploring the caves on the island while there during carrier qualification detachments as Maintenance Officer for the VAW-115 Liberty Bells, an E2C Hawkeye squadron forward deployed to Atsugi Japan.
