Writer's Block: Kate Washington

Presented by Crocker Art Museum at Crocker Art Museum

As part of the Art + Wellness Initiative, join Crocker Art for a conversation with Sacramento author Kate Washington about her memoir Already Toast: Caregiving and Burnout in America, which Publisher’s Weekly called a “wrenching debut.” In it, Washington writes candidly of her struggle to care for her seriously ill husband and offers a revealing look at the role unpaid family caregivers play in a society that fails to provide them with structural support — a systemic gap highlighted by the pandemic — which also offers an opportunity for change. Washington shares how writing and art can help caregivers cope with challenging times, and Museum guides will offer a slow looking experience in the galleries. Advance reading is not necessary, and the book will be available for purchase in the Museum Store. There will be a book signing.
