Explore Arte: Clay Making Month

Explore Arte: Clay Making Month

Presented by Casa de Espanol at CASA de ESPAÑOL | Center for Language and Culture

CASA de ESPAÑOL is excited to showcase local Latinx artists as part of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) 56th Annual Conference, Fertile Ground. Stop by and enjoy the current exhibit, “Explore Arte,” featuring original art from five local ceramists, including Domingo Castro, Gabriel Gonzales, Toni Rodríguez, Daniel Trejo, and Freddy Santana.

Also on display will be traditional Mucawa bowls brought from a Kichwa community along the Napo River in Ecuador, sponsored by the Ecuadorian artist, Cristian Velastegui. These pieces have been selected and shipped from Ecuador specifically for this exhibit and highlight the centuries-old tradition of creating intricately designed pots for ceremonial purposes and shattering them afterward in order to offer the clay back to the earth, representing the circle of life.
