Rita’s style of country-folk has been lauded for story and sense of place, and fans call her “the real deal.” A descendant of Cornish miners who sang in the mines, Rita grew up with deep regard for folk music and the power of the voice. Through her studies, she gained perspective into the universal human psyche that would later be integrated with her own story.
Rita’s 2005 debut album Are You Ready? was followed by award-winning albums Come Sunrise, produced by Rich Brotherton (of the Robert Earl Keen Band); Burn, Little Boat; and her sixth album in 10 years, Frankie and the No-Go Road, a soundtrack-like exploration of the human psyche and American spirit. The album was called “one of Americana’s finest concept albums” by the Observer.
Known for their rare and obscure repertoire, fiery performances, and eclectic, often vintage instrumentation, The Crooked Jades began with band leader/founder Jeff Kazor’s vision to revive the dark and hypnotic sounds of pre-radio music. The band has created a unique sound by exploring the roots of Americana and interweaving the diverse musical influences of Europe and Africa.
A collective of West and East Coast pickers (playing guitar, slide guitar, ukulele, banjo, fiddle, bass & harmonium), the band performs with a thrilling energy that has audiences on their feet dancing and critics comparing them to everyone from The Pogues to Gillian Welch and Nick Cave.
The Crooked Jades consists of Jeff Kazor, Lisa Berman, Erik Pearson, Megan Adie, and Emily Mann.
