Paper Engineering

Discover the versatility of paper with hands-on art projects and talks with artists. Collaborate to design and build a cityscape installation in the studio while learning about architecture, collage, and printmaking techniques. Students will also hear about advanced paper engineering techniques from special guest artist David Carter. 

About the Instructors:

Kaitlyn Griggs is a recent UC Davis graduate who majored in Art Studio and minored in Art History. Kaitlyn is primarily a 2D artist whose personal artwork is comprised of large, conceptual figure drawings and plein air landscapes. Her interest in teaching developed from her time volunteering within student organizations. Throughout her life, Kaitlyn has found art making to be an exciting endeavor and she loves helping to foster a love of creativity in others.

David A. Carter is the mastermind behind the powerful Bug phenomenon that began in 1988 with the publication of How Many Bugs in a Box? Since then he has created a series of Bugs books with combined sales of nearly six million copies. His work, One Red Dot, was a New York Times best-seller and was highly praised by Newsweek and Entertainment Weekly magazines. He is also the author of the popular Blue 2. His Easter Bugs was a #1 New York Times bestseller for three years, and Halloween Bugs has been on that list for two years. He has also collaborated on Let’s Make It Pop-Up!, Curious Critters, The Elements of Pop Up, and The Nutcracker. He lives in Auburn, California, with his wife and two daughters.

Note: You can “Bundle” this class with Intensive Painting Workshop from 1pm-4pm. When you register your child for this “Bundle,” their education department supervises an hour of midday care each day between classes for only $20 ($16 for 4-day week).
