Kumihimo: Then and Now

Join Sacramento Center for the Textile Arts for a lecture by Diana Shiraishi on the history and art of kumihimo, an ancient Japanese braiding technique. After a discussion of the rich history of kumihimo, the lecture will focus on the creative differences between two tools, the maru-dai and the disk, and then cover terminology, explanation of types of braids, materials, fibers, and tools.
