A Chanticleer Christmas

Chanticleer presents its beloved annual holiday tradition with a transcendent offering of sacred music from the Renaissance to joyful spirituals and traditional carols with a stop at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.

In a longstanding Bay-Area tradition (and surrounding regions) spanning a remarkable 40 years, A Chanticleer Christmas is one of the ensemble’s most enduring offerings and tells the story of the nativity in music written from the 13th-21st centuries. The program begins with candlelit Gregorian Chant and continues with a wide selection of music by Palestrina, Sweelinck, Biebel, Rachmaninoff and Poulenc; traditional English and Spanish Carols; and the world premiere of “Behold, a Simple, Tender Babe” by choral composer Peter Bloesch.
